303 Touchless Sealant: A Great Look for Classic and Modern Cars
You may be a car enthusiast fortunate enough to have a vintage vehicle that you roll out of storage every spring. Or, you may simply want to make your ride shine and sparkle!
Either way, there are several ways to protect the exterior of your vehicle. Choose from three categories of products: waxes, touchless sealants and ceramic coatings. There are spray waxes and paste waxes. Touchless sealants feature “spray on, rinse off” ease. Technicians typically apply ceramic coatings.
303 Touchless Sealant is a new product that’s only been available since early 2019. This time-saving wax alternative sprays on and rinses off. There’s no need for wiping or buffing. It delivers excellent water beading and UV protection.
It is safe to use on both clearcoat and single-stage paint. This means it will protect any vehicle. This includes 1960s muscle cars and classics featured in the movies. Consider Steve McQueen’s Glossy Black 1968 Dodge Charger R/T 440 in the movie Bullitt. Or, consider the Aston Martin DB5 James Bond drove in Goldfinger. It included everything from machine guns to an ejection seat!
How Does it Work?
303 Touchless Sealant features polymers that actually attach to car paint. A chemical reaction called crosslinking makes the sealant very durable. In fact, it lasts about twice as long as traditional wax.
A key ingredient in the product is silicon dioxide (SiO2), an extremely “hydrophobic” substance. That is, it repels water. When applied to your vehicle, SiO2 delivers superior water beading. Sheets of water pull away from the paint surface as they bead up. The advanced formula is capable of much more. It resists ultraviolet (UV) light, harsh detergents and environmental contaminants as well.
303 Touchless Sealant vs Ceramic Coating
303 Touchless Sealant uses silicon dioxide (SiO2) technology. Technician-applied ceramic coatings use silicon carbide (SiC) technology. These coatings do share some common characteristics. They both repel water and protect against UV radiation. It is easier to remove dirt, mud, bug residue, bird droppings, tree sap, brake dust and other contaminants from treated surfaces.
Some use the term “ceramic coating” in a rather general way. They use it to suggest how hard and durable a paint protectant is. Technically, the term only applies to a silicon carbide coating requiring professional application. Due to cure times, a vehicle getting this treatment usually spends a couple of days in the shop. Multi-layer packages may take a vehicle out of service for up to four or five days. SiC coatings can only be removed with abrasives like polishing or rubbing compounds.
The silicon dioxide formula delivers full surface protection without requiring professional application. In fact, all you do is spray it on and rinse it off! Once you’ve applied 303 Touchless Sealant, there’s no need to wax your car ever again. Re-apply as needed to restore full water beading and UV protection.
Apply it to your wheels, trim and windshield as well. You can also use it to protect the fiberglass gelcoat on your boat or RV. Use it on your other watercraft and ATVs too!
