Hugger Orange and Grabber Blue: The two coolest colors of all-time

Analysts are always trying to figure out why some colors are consistently popular when it comes to new cars while other shades will be all the rage one year then virtually disappear from the market the next. Bright purple PT Cruisers may have been in vogue back in the early 2000s, but you hardly see any new models on the road these days offering this tone fresh off the assembly line.

According to a recent study conducted in Europe, for example, white cars tend to have fantastic resale values, while maroon and turquoise vehicles tend to see their price tags drop significantly after only a few years.

Some colors, however, have never been popular across the board, but instead are the signature shade for a specific make and model. While a bright orange Mercury Sable would look absolutely ridiculous, for example, there are few things more attractive than a 1969 Camaro dowsed in a fiery tint.

A report published last month by collector car insurance company Haggerty named Hugger Orange the coolest tone in automotive history. This shade gets its name from the ad campaign for the first-generation Camaro, which Chevy affectionately called “The Hugger.” Because of the car’s wide, low stance and precision handling, it “hugged the road,” and when the 1969 model hit the streets, Chevy decided a signature orange tone would help set it apart from the competition – namely, the Mustang.

It should come as no surprise, then, that the Mustang Grabber Blue comes in second place. No one is positive where e

xactly this shade came from, but it is without a doubt the coolest color to purchase either a vintage Mustang or a 2013 model in.
